Kathy Jesse

Kathy Jesse is faculty adviser for the BSU at Black Expo Summer Celebration project.
She has been a writing instructor in BSU's journalism department for the past year, and served as interim adviser for the Ball State Daily News. Prior to that, she spent 10 years as a high school English and journalism teacher in Indianapolis Public Schools. She is a "second-career teacher," having spent most of her career as a newspaper reporter for The Indianapolis Star and The Dayton Daily News. In her free time, she talks about her dog, Argos. She knows it's too much, but she doesn't care. |
Alaina Halsey

Alaina Jaye Halsey is a sophomore telecommunications and journalism major in the news track. She is from Evansville, Ind. and has three older brothers and a slightly unhealthy obsession with Snoopy. She was the assistant multimedia editor for the Ball State Daily News and is also on the media relations committee for Ball State's Dance Marathon. Alaina Jaye hopes to intern at BuzzFeed in their social media, news and/or video department. After college, she wants to move to New York to work for BuzzFeed, NBC or Peanuts. She'd also like to live in Nashville, Tenn. and work for CMT. |
Allyson Edmonds

Allyson Edmonds is from Indianapolis and is currently a junior at Ball State, majoring in journalism news. She is interested in careers in entertainment news and covering events. She'd like to be on-air talent for E! News or Entertainment Tonight. She is involved in The Reel Deal entertainment news show at Ball State, the National Association of Black Journalists, L!ve in Color radio show and the Black Student Association. |
Amer Khubrani

Amer Khubrani is a senior journalism major in the photojournalism track at Ball State University. He is an international student from Saudi Arabia and a father of two boys. This past year, he has worked capturing sport and event photos for the Ball State Daily News. His primary strength is creating and editing visuals and photos. Khubrani’s film skills range from editing videos to designing graphics. He has produced a number of short story videos and sound slides. In addition to Khubrani’s projects, he has learned software skills for the video editing software Final Cut Pro. He also has experience editing photos and sound with Photoshop and GarageBand. In his free time, Khubrani likes to shoot aerial video and photos and work on independent projects to hone his craft. |
Casey Smith

Casey Smith is a sophomore journalism news and graphics major from Indianapolis and has worked at the Ball State Daily News since 2014. During her freshman year, she worked with the Inglehart Scholars and the Facing Project in Muncie, IN. Casey is the Editor-in-Chief of Ball State's Her Campus Chapter, and she is currently completing an internship with Drum Corps International as the Communications Intern. In the Spring of 2016, Casey will travel to Hungary with Professor Sheryl Swingley to retrace the steps of Joseph Pulitzer on a Ball State immersive learning project. In her free time, Casey loves to travel, eat food with friends and binge-watch episodes of House. |
Christopher Stephens

Christopher Stephens is a senior journalism and telecommunications major at Ball State University.
He has worked as a writer and photographer for the university's student-run newspaper, the Ball State Daily News, for the past four years. He is currently the editor-in-chief of the publication. Preferring to cover crime and breaking news Christopher can most frequently be seen tailing firetrucks and police cars in his beat-up car with the police scanner blaring from his phone. When he isn't hot on the trail of the next story Christopher is often found strumming the strings on his second-hand acoustic or trying his best not to come last in Mario Kart - again. |
Danielle Behrens

Danielle Behrens is a junior at Ball State University. She is currently majoring in Journalism Graphics with a digital media minor.
While at Ball State, she has been an entertainment reporter for Newslink Indiana and is a member of the WCRD news team. She has also been involved in Music and Memory Muncie, where they bring personalized music to the elderly who are suffering from Alzheimer’s and dementia, as well as a few university choirs. Prior to college she was involved in show choir, competitive dance, theater, photography and ceramics. She also loves spending her free time with her friends and family, and she adores animals. |

Kelsie Arnold is a junior Journalism Graphics major from Hagerstown, Indiana.
Entering her third year at the University’s Journalism Program, she has dabbled in multiple student media organizations during her time at Ball State and has had two off-campus internships. In her free time she enjoys overloading on coffee, browsing Pinterest and listening to music. |
Liz Young

Liz Young is a sophomore Journalism Graphics and Magazine Writing major at Ball State from Chicago working for Black Expo Summer Celebration project. She has worked for the Ball State Daily News and Ball Bearings as a multipurpose designer. Liz is also a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha and enjoys volunteering in her free time. In addition, she is addicted to SnapChat, Ellen DeGeneres, rap music, and Dunkin Donuts. |
Moyé Whitehead

Moyé Whitehead is senior Journalism and Telecommunications major at Ball State University who was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota
He is currently involved in different media organizations including NewsLink Indiana, Cardinal Sports Live and National Association of Black Journalists. He plans to use his passion for journalism to continue writing and reporting at a media outlet or newspaper. His dream job is to become a sports anchor for ESPN. Moyé is a very easygoing person who loves to meet new people and learn new things. He is also referred to as a “sports junky’ by his friends. In his free time, he spends time with family and friends and watches ESPN and sports all day. |
Rose Skelly

Rose Skelly is a sophomore journalism student at Ball State University who comes from South Bend.
She spent her freshman year working as a chief reporter at the Ball State Daily News and will be the assistant news editor for the paper during the 2015-2016 school year. Rose has six siblings and, in her free time, likes to read, watch TV and generally avoid the outdoors. |
Shira McDuffy

Shira McDuffy is a senior journalism-news major at Ball State University. She aspires to work in radio after graduation, then continue that talent on television with NBCUniversal’s E! News Network.
Shira is known for having a voice for radio and a face for television, a rare combination and she intends to use her bubbling personality to share the "real" side of news. She graduated from Warren Central High School, out of Indianapolis in 2011. During her years at Warren, she worked as the sportscaster and a reporter on their morning announcements. This is where she found her love for journalism! As a senior rookie on the Warren Central speech and debate team, Shira further strengthened her communication skill, going undefeated for the season and placing third in the state championships. She hopes to use her skills to conduct meaningful interviews this summer at the Black Expo Summer Celebration! Shira loves tattoos (of which she has 27), English graffiti artist Banksy, and reality tv. |
